Tears on the Page (2009)

She pauses her pen over the page
thinking of what she wants to say.
She wants to tell him everything
from has to is to will to may.

She wants to tell him
his love is returned
her heart is his to keep
their life together has begun.

She wants to reach out
and touch his cheek
part his lips with hers
fall asleep in his embrace.

She wants to believe in a forever
a happily ever after
a nothing matters but us
a we can work it out.

But she pauses.

She feels again the hurt in her heart
the tears sealing her wounds
the torn happily ever after
the rift that intrudes between them.

She puts her pen to paper
knowing exactly what to say.
She tells him in her last act of love:
She tells him goodbye.
