Independent Roundabout
I have a very awkward relationship with the Independent Monument. I’ve met it a few times, drove past it, and even walked around its tenuous borders with motos zooming past me at crazy speeds while my local companions are oblivious to it all. I tried asking people what the Independent Monument was, what it does (it doesn’t) and what it meant.
The obvious reply came and the Independent Monument was a monument to celebrate the Independence of Cambodia from foreign rule. It is also a memorial for the Cambodian war casualties. It’s also lighted up at night, i think mainly so the crazy motos don’t run into it.
It’s primary function is for national celebrations on special ocassions. However, it’s primary function on normal days, it seems to me, is acting merely as a roundabout so the crazy motos don’t crash into each other.

No no no… you’ve got it all wrong Tinlala Princess.
This monument was made to annoy the eyes for beautiful skies.
Put your finger over the weird thingy and see how pretty the sky is?
Now take your finger off!
