Shrinking world

I dunno about you, but when I go travelling, i love experiencing new things, but at the same time, am constantly amazed and joyous to find things that are like home (i.e., Sydney). Maybe it’s a sign of globalisation shrinking the world and the merging of cultures and corporations. Whatever it is, this one’s for you, Sydney.

Sony

It was a little strange going up this street littered with the homeless, with fading apartment stacks and with modest roadside businesses – to a protruding SONY sign.

Caltex

I don’t know why I was so surprised to see Caltex here. I mean, obviously they need petrol. I guess it was a little wierd seeing something so everyday to me when I was experiencing a new culture. And maybe having Khmer writing on the Caltex sign had to do something with it. Oh, and FYI, they have Shell too!

Syd1 Ok, what’s the big deal with this one? Well, let’s zoom in a bit:

Syd2

So there you have it. If any Sydneysiders ever feel homesick in Phnom Penh, here’s your reliefs (and I’m not talking about MildSeven either!)
