Waiting
I found out from an Australian doing her Phd on Cambodia a lot about this place. I asked her about those people just sitting around and she said part of her Phd was actually an analysis of those people. After many days of observation and interviews with these locals, she concluded that most of these locals sat around because they were waiting. Waiting for what? Waiting not in anticipation for something to happen; just waiting. Perhaps waiting passively for an opportunity to be plopped into their laps; a very different outlook to the way we pursue rigorously for opportunities. On my first day I thought it was great so many people are enjoying the great outdoors and the company of their families. But when I look closer, amongst them there are many who just sit and stare blankly into the distance. It is sad to watch the unemployed and homeless just waiting their lives away. It is a great contrast to the hustle and bustle of Sydney’s city life.

Being a bloke from the 3rd World, what you wrote inspires me to think that there is a time to be contemplative in action & a time to be an activist in contemplation.
Perhaps they endured too much hard work in previous lives… and with great positive karma that built-up, they made a wish… “Can i live a life of a cat, but in a body of a human?”
